"Adventure" at Albert College is something that is unique within the Independent Schools. It is a program that is constantly changing as the need for personal exploration and leadership develops within the student body.
The Adventure Program gives students the opportunity to learn outside the classroom, to challenge themselves in areas of uncertainty, to develop personal leadership and teamwork skills and to create fond memories and wonderful friendships.
School Adventure Trips
Fall Camp for the entire senior school is a highlight in September. Before classes begin, students and faculty alike spend several days enjoying the Canadian outdoors together. During the day, students chose from a variety of activities including kayaking, canoeing, sailing, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, and hiking. In the evenings, everyone gathers around the campfire for skits and songs. An excellent opportunity to meet other students and spend time with teachers outside the classroom, camp is an event that our students look forward to each year.
Optional Adventure Trips
Offered, with a fee, these excursions are available to students each year. In addition to these recurring trips, international trips may be offered as well, depending on student interest.
Duke of Edinburgh Trips
A program focusing on individual development, personal achievement and self-challenge, the Duke of Ed program is available to anyone between the ages of 14 and 25. As students work towards the levels in the program, they have the opportunity to organize and participate in a variety of expeditions including canoe trips, outdoor camping, snowshoeing and hiking. For further information on this program, please visit the leadership link under School Life.
Mont Tremblant, Québec
The Tremblant January Trip is a popular 2-3 day excursion which appeals to approximately 50% of senior school population. Students can snowboard, ski, hike, and enjoy sleigh rides, restaurants and shopping attractions.
Visit to the United States
An alternating annual trip to New York, Boston or Washington is another feature of Albert's adventure program. In New York City, students visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, enjoy plays on Broadway, shop in Times Square or tour the Rockefeller Centre. The Boston adventure features whale watching, a walk on the Freedom Trail, a visit to the New England Aquarium, and shopping in Faneuil Square and Quincy Market. In Washington, students will have the opportunity to tour Capital Hill, and will visit other historical museums and sites.
